William B. Meyer Inc. Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary of Moving & Storage Success

“People give us something to keep safe, and trust us to return it to them when needed.” And that, simply, is how President Tom Gillon, Sr. attributes the one hundred year success of William B. Meyer, Inc. From modest beginnings and a strict adherence to the same principles put forth by its founder William B. Meyer in 1915, William B. Meyer Inc. now celebrates its one hundred year anniversary this year. Planned activities include quarterly charitable events encouraging MEYER employee participation to thank the communities where they live and work. A grand 100 Year Anniversary Gala event will take place in September to thank all William B. Meyer associates.

Built on the mission that William B. Meyer, Inc. exists “to help our customers safely relocate, handle and store their highly valued assets”, the fourth generation managed company was started by William B. Meyer in 1915 when he left the butcher trade and started a moving company with a single cart and horse. Today, employees remain dedicated to the values of exceeding customer expectations and delivering more services than promised. What was once a simple one person moving company has now evolved into a diversified transportation and storage provider offering services in residential relocation, records management, document imaging, fulfillment, logistics, office moving, rigging, and library relocation. The Stratford, Connecticut based company has grown to multiple locations, with more than 250 associates and over 1 million square feet of warehouse space located in Stratford and Windsor, Connecticut; and Bedford Hills, New York.

William B. Meyer Inc. has truly exhibited their motto of “expertise you can trust”, helping redefine transportation, storage, and distribution solutions for a century.  Successful expansion of the company’s services portfolio over the years can be attributed to changing needs of local businesses and consumers; usually a direct result of the local and national economic conditions and political fronts. From development of a logistics arm in 1942 when contracted by General Electric to deliver radar units to the US Navy, to entry into rigging services in the1960s to serve requirements of manufacturers in the Northeast, William B. Meyer, Inc. has continued to successfully develop services expertise to meet client needs.  In 1947, they became one of the founding United Van Lines agents for country-wide residential moving. In 1978 MEYER’s Records Management division was established and in the 1980’s William B. Meyer became a nationally recognized authority in specialized library relocation services.
