Building on the excitement and success of the charity efforts in the past year as a part of the company’s centennial celebration, the team at William B. Meyer, Inc. hosted its 17th annual 5K on Sunday, December 20. The MEYER Holiday 5K Run/Walk is a company favorite, attracting team members, their friends and family, and local runners, bringing in a record number of total registration this year. As in previous years, the annual run/walk took place at The Scandinavian Club in Fairfield, CT and covered a flat 3.1 mile course that stretched down to the water and back.
A brand new, unwrapped toy was a part of each runner’s registration in the race. All toys collected at the event were donated to the Fairfield Police Toy Drive who will distribute them to children in need in and around the Fairfield County area. Additional proceeds from the run will be donated to the Fairfield Police Union Scholarship Fund and Operation Warm through the Fairfield Fire Department, which provides brand new winter coats to children in need.
We are proud to be the primary sponsor of such a successful event that truly makes a difference in our local community. There were a record number of pre-registrations for this year’s race with 430 total participants- more than ever before! With more participation comes greater support and donations for the Fairfield Police and Fire Department charities and the children and people they benefit. The event grew so much this year that the physical presence itself was much greater- with tents, runners, and, of course, more donated toys!
Tom Gillon Jr., President of William B. Meyer, Inc. remarked on the run: “Every year we look forward to this race as a way of making a difference in so many children’s holiday season experiences while supporting the Fairfield Police and Fire Departments. Following a momentous year celebrating 100 years as a local, family-owned business, it’s more important than ever to continue our traditions of giving back to our local communities.”
To have such a successful charity race event would not be possible without the help of Marty Schaivone from M.S. Running Productions. Every year he sets out the 5K race course that is fun, challenging, and scenic. We would also like to thank the Scandinavian Club in Fairfield, CT for hosting the event again, even as it grows in size and participation every year. We’re also proud to announce the members from William B. Meyer, Inc. that placed in their age groups! Elizabeth Gallucci, daughter of our very own Bob Gallucci, placed first in the Female Age Group 14-18 clocking in at 27:04. Olga Alexandru from our Accounting Department placed fourth in the Female Age Group 30-39 at 24:07. To see all of the participant times, click here. We hope everyone who had the opportunity to participate enjoyed the race as much as we did and we look forward to hosting the race again next year!
