Introduction/Overview

For years, Sherri Pulie suffered from migraines and ten years ago, she set out to create a new product that would offer relief. In 2013, Sherri invented the Headache Hat and for her first two years in business, she assembled the hats by hand on her dining room table.

The Challenge

After initial success and to support the company’s continued growth, Sherri tried outsourcing the assembly and fulfillment of the products for several years, but she ran into issues with quality not meeting her standards and logistical capabilities not being strong enough to keep up with the growing volume. Unfortunately, these vendor relationships were a source of new headaches for Sherri.

By 2018, Sherri’s frustrations led her to search for a new vendor that could both scale predictably with Headache Hat’s growth and assemble her products with care and quality every time. After a search, she was introduced to the Meyer team and quickly realized she had met her partner, reflecting that the decision “became a no-brainer.”

The Solution

To make the Headache Hat partnership successful from the start, Meyer immediately undertook a comprehensive simulation and time study to accurately forecast what it would take to assemble and ship the products. As Sherri shared, “no other vendors went to this extent and thoroughness in their approach.”

Next, the new partners conducted a detailed kickoff meeting with members of both Meyer’s leadership team and staff to give Sherri and her employees an accurate sense of who they would be working with. The Meyer team then walked Sherri and her employees through a detailed onboarding process to create reliable processes so the work would proceed seamlessly from the start.

To ensure consistency and quality, Sherri created instructional videos for the Meyer team to be trained on best practices in assembling the Headache Hat products.

The Meyer team integrated all the components for the Headache Hat products into their inventory management system and trained the client team on using the Meyer portal to manage inventory and process order details.

As a result, the entire order process is managed through Meyer’s comprehensive portal interface.

Meyer’s Impact

With the strength of Meyer’s technology and portal, the Headache Hat team gained real-time insight into their inventory and when they would need to begin manufacturing more components for their products. This has allowed Sherri to more accurately and proactively manage her business while also facilitating better cash-flow.

In addition, the Meyer team’s ability to respond to surges in demand has given Sherri the confidence to pursue opportunities that drive significant swells in revenue. For example, Headache Hats have been featured on Good Morning America flash sales that drove thousands of orders in just one hour.

As Sherri recently said, “I never could have pursued opportunities like this without Meyer’s proven capabilities and ability to respond.” In fact, in the first year after initiating the Meyer partnership, Headache Hat grew its revenue by 62%, even as the world entered the pandemic.
