It’s our favorite time of the year to give back to our community and bring smiles to children’s faces. Our tradition of making nearly 1,000 toy bags continued this year!

Nadine Palmer, Human Resources Coordinator at William B. Meyer, Inc., has organized this event for the last couple of years. She believes that every child has an artistic ability that should be encouraged to flourish. When deciding on the toys and activities for the bags this year, she selected items to help cultivate and develop that creativity and imagination. The bags included puzzles, sketch books, colored pencils, and watercolor sets, among other items.

Team members from all of our service offerings and departments came together and assembled the gift bags. We hand selected and packed each bag with care while listening to holiday music and drinking hot chocolate.

Over the course of one week our team also assembled fleece blankets. During our build-a-blanket event we made over 100 blankets during that week! This year we also made scarves to be paired with gloves to donate to children.

We selected different local hospitals, children’s centers, and charitable organizations from our community to donate the toy bags, blankets, scarves and gloves. These include: Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, CT, Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, Why Me & Sherry’s House in Worcester, MA, and the Shehan Center in Bridgeport, CT. Members from our team always enjoy handing out the bags and blankets to the children at the Shehan Center. It is a great privilege to be able to see the joy on their faces.

We also donated scarves and gloves to the New Haven Community Soup Kitchen at Christ Church. David O’Sullivan runs the kitchen at the New Haven Community Soup Kitchen and expressed gratitude: “these efforts of the William B. Meyer team are actually heroic. We have plenty of socks and hats at this time of year but very few gloves and scarves. You have truly made a difference.”

We’re already looking forward to continuing the tradition next year!

William B. Meyer, Inc. was thrilled to assist with St. Vincent’s Hospital’s 5th Annual Medical Mission at Home. On Saturday, November 2nd, a dedicated crew from William B. Meyer,Inc’s Office Moving business was assigned to help organize and move the necessary materials for the event which was located at the Cesar Batalla School in Bridgeport, CT. Medical Mission at Home delivers much needed services and support to the Bridgeport community in the form of medical care such as exams, podiatry services and vaccinations. They also donate reading glasses, canes, shoes, coats, and other winter items and provide information on follow- up care and services. This year they had over 400 patients who met with doctors and also received specific medical information from over 300 volunteers on site.

Meyer donated their services by providing a truck and an experienced crew to help transport the supplies. Dave Ingmanson, Manager of Operations at St. Vincent’s expressed, “I just wanted to say thank you again for sending us Ferdinand again this year to help us move truckloads of supplies to our Medical Mission in Bridgeport. It’s always nice seeing a familiar face each year. As always, he was amazing and is always a pleasure to work with. Thanks again to William B. Meyer for making this great event possible.”

Thank you, St. Vincent’s, for allowing us to be part of such a special event!

William B. Meyer, Inc. together with Altair Global, collected enough cans of both tuna and salmon to feed over 700 people! The combined effort of teams from both companies helped garner over 350 cans in a very short period of time.

As an initiative through Move for Hunger, non-perishable items are collected from families that are relocating. Rather than the food items being thrown away, they are collected by household movers like William B. Meyer, Inc. and donated to a local food bank. In this case the beneficiary was the CT Food Bank. This organization offers relief to families in need throughout southern Connecticut.

This event was very impactful and the staff at William B. Meyer, Inc. looks forward to assisting in more events like this to help the CT Food Bank’s efforts to combat food insecurities within the communities where they both work and live.

Kicking off the summer season in a charitable way, William B. Meyer, Inc. volunteered at the Connecticut Children Medical Center’s Reach for the Stars event earlier this month. William B. Meyer, Inc. colleagues, friends, and family members added to the long list of volunteers on a day that brings joy to children of all ages who have been affected by cancer. The Reach for the Stars event brings a smile to the faces of children who have suffered from illness, giving them a chance to have some fun and soak up some sun. It’s a truly worthy cause when you can light up a child’s life for a day and one our team looks forward to every year.

This June, our team worked together to launch the various activities at the event. The venues and activities included exciting games, arts and crafts, bubbles, and even a bouncy house. All members of the Meyer team had the children in mind on a day when their happiness was of utmost importance. The Reach for the Stars event gives pediatric cancer survivors, patients, and their families and caregivers an opportunity every year to reconnect and enjoy a day built for smiles. Children can be children running through obstacle courses, watching magic shows, and bouncing down slides at the event that is geared toward enjoying some fun in the sun!

“The Reach for the Stars event is meaningful to the Meyer team members and volunteers, but it is also a day that is all about the children. Kids can be kids for the day,” said Danielle M. Schwall, Director of Administration and Client Services at William B. Meyer, Inc.

President of William B. Meyer, Inc. Tom Gillon, Jr. added “Just as our volunteers gave children the gift of a day dedicated to play, the real gift is the impression the kids make on the people who make the day possible. Our team is grateful to volunteer and share the positive experience with other volunteers, caregivers and, most importantly, the children.”

All the William B. Meyer, Inc. volunteers find that each year the Reach for the Stars event gets better and better. There is nothing quite like helping kids live in the moment despite overcoming childhood cancer. Both rewarding and enjoyable, our team can’t wait to volunteer for many years to come!

For our spring food drive this year, William B. Meyer, Inc. focused on a classic duo – peanut butter and jelly! Just like nothing goes together like peanut butter and jelly, nothing brings our team together like charity and competition. With separate goals set for teams throughout all our offices, we collected nearly 1,000 items over a 5-week period. The team shined once again, working both with and against each other to see which group could collect the most jars. As with past efforts, it all came together and nicely reflected our core values while giving back to our local communities.

Every single jar of peanut butter and jelly will be donated to food charities and pantries located near one of our offices These organizations all work to give back to the community and work to provide nutritious food sources to those in need of a meal.

The donations received from our Stratford location will be given to the Thomas Merton Center in Bridgeport, CT. The Merton Center helps people in the city of Bridgeport and surrounding areas who are in need of housing, food, water, and healthcare needs among other programs.

Windsor Food & Fuel will be receiving donations from our Windsor, CT location. The Windsor Food & Fuel Bank is entirely run by volunteers who work daily to live by their mission: to ensure that no Windsor resident goes hungry, is left in the cold, or is without basic necessities.

Our Bedford facility will be distributing all of their donations to Lifting Up Westchester located in White Plains, NY. All donations will go to their outreach centers: Grace’s Kitchen, the Open Arms Men’s Shelter, and the Samaritan House Shelters. Through Grace’s Kitchen, 60-80 individuals are fed every weekday, and more than 20,000 meals are provided every year,

In our Massachusetts community, donations will go to the South Worcester Neighborhood Center. Founded in 1969, this organization facilitates education, employment, housing, health, and food security for families in need. Our donations will support our neighbors in Worcester through their food pantry, which is open every weekday.

Through this food drive, our company is also a proud partner with Move for Hunger, a nonprofit organization that works with relocation companies to collect non-perishable food items in order to combat hunger throughout North America. A portion of the food collected during this food drive counted towards their Stamp Out Hunger event – one of the largest food drives in the country.

William B. Meyer, Inc. is devoted to the fight to end hunger and we start at home by helping our neighbors. Even without the competitive edge or fun theme, our team would have participated, but it turns out that a pizza party is a great motivator! Thanks to everyone from our team who donated PB & J to help us make a difference that counts.

There’s nothing our team enjoys more than bringing smiles to children’s faces during the holiday season.

There’s nothing our team enjoys more than bringing smiles to children’s faces during the holiday season. In addition to the build-a-blanket event in November and toy drive, we continued the tradition of assembling toy bags for children at local hospitals and community centers. Each drawstring backpack was personally stuffed with toys and surprises by members of the William B. Meyer, Inc. team. Our team put together nearly 1,000 toy bags that were distributed the hospitals and centers.

The backpacks were stuffed to the brim with Play-Doh, puzzles, coloring books, Crayola colored pencils, bubble toys, and full-sized fleece blankets. Nadine Palmer, HR Coordinator at William B. Meyer, Inc., selected items that would appeal to kids of all ages and help keep them entertained during hospital stays.

After completing assembly, members of our team donated the toy bags and blankets to local hospitals: Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, CT, Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT and Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. Other bags and blankets were donated to local charitable organizations and children’s centers: Shehan Center in Bridgeport, CT, My Sister’s Place in White Plains, NY, Cradles to Crayons in Boston, MA, and Worcester Community Action Council in Worcester, MA. At the Shehan Center our team has the special opportunity to hand out toy bags directly to the children. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the delight on their faces after weeks of planning, assembling, and distributing the toy bags.

Every year our team looks forward to giving back to our local communities during the holiday season. From our annual toy drive to building blankets and assembling toy bags, we dedicate our time to improving lives in our local communities.

William B. Meyer, Inc. has long supported local children’s charities. This summer, our company partnered with the Eric Murdock Foundation to sponsor an all-day event on the last day of basketball camp at the Cardinal Shehan Center in Bridgeport, CT.

The day was orchestrated by Ted Kennedy, Vice President of Sales for William B. Meyer, Inc., Eric Murdock, who played nine seasons in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks, NJ Nets, and Miami Heat, and Judge Kevin Doyle of the Connecticut Superior Court. All three are friends who met during their undergraduate days at Providence College.

Together they worked with Terry O’Connor, Executive Director at the Cardinal Shehan Center, to bring the event to life. He commented on the accompanying donation, “William B. Meyer, Inc. continues to make a real impact here. They sponsored a great day of basketball for the kids. And their generous financial support will be put to use for our Art Education Program. 30 kids will be able to attend every day for eight weeks. What a wonderful experience for them.”

Kennedy elaborated on the event and why he felt it was a great opportunity to support the children in the local community: “We thought it would be a real thrill for the kids if we brought in my friend Eric to work with them. It’s not often as a kid that you get a chance to meet an NBA star. Eric is so community-oriented he jumped at the chance and clearly had as much fun as kids. We were happy to facilitate such a great day and, in doing so, support two great organizations in the Shehan Center and the Eric Murdock Foundation.”

Dressed in colorful shirts provided by William B. Meyer, Inc. the kids practiced drills and played games, coached by Murdock and his son, Eric Jr. Murdock shared his thoughts on the camp: “My son. and I truly appreciated the day at the Shehan Center. The kids here are amazing and we enjoyed sharing our off-court experiences with them while helping them develop their skills. William B. Meyer’s donation to my foundation will go directly to the afterschool program at the Martin Luther King Center in my hometown of Bridgewater, New Jersey.”

The players had a wonderful time putting their skills from the weeklong camp to the test while having the chance to show off a little for an NBA star. William B. Meyer, Inc. is looking forward to continuing to sponsor and support events like this one in communities throughout the Northeast that focus on allowing kids to be kids!

Earlier this month, William B. Meyer, Inc. volunteered at the Connecticut Children Medical Center’s Reach for the Stars event. The William B. Meyer, Inc. volunteers totaled nearly 40 people, which included our team members and their friends and family members! The Reach for the Stars event is a chance for children of all ages affected by cancer to take a step back from their illness and enjoy their childhood. It’s a day where kids can be kids.

On the first Sunday of June, the Meyer team was ready to launch in to action to help out at various venues at the event. These venues included games, grills, bubbles, and even a bouncy house. The Meyer team didn’t hesitate to make sure each child was having a wonderful time. Every year this event is a great opportunity for pediatric cancer survivors, patients, and their families to have a fun way to reconnect with their supporters and caregivers. Our volunteers worked hard to make sure every kid had an out of this world experience.

Cheryl Holden, a member of our accounting team, reflected, “As an experienced volunteer, it was my second year participating in this event after volunteering for 8 years at the Cycle of Life events. Each year, it gets better and better. The kids have a blast and it is really rewarding to see the smiles on their faces.” The Reach for the Stars event is an unforgettable day not only for the volunteers, but for the kids, too. It is a day where children and their loved ones can live in the moment.

President of William B. Meyer, Inc., Tom Gillon, Jr., said it best: “It’s important to give these kids the opportunity to let their true colors show. By helping them in the way we do, we show them that there is no star too far out of their reach for them to grasp.” Giving kids this experience and teaching them this valuable lesson is one of our favorite ways to give back. The Reach for the Stars event makes a great impression on every child, their caretakers, and our volunteers.

During the 2018 April Showers Food Drive, William B. Meyer, Inc. successfully collected 4,520 items from all locations during a six week period. As a team, we came together and collected so many donations that we blew our 3,000 item goal out of the water! During this drive, our team embodied our core values, showing that we are committed to giving back to our local communities.

The 4,520 items collected will be distributed to our local food charities, including the Merton Center in Bridgeport, CT, FoodShare in Bloomfield, CT, and Lifting Up Westchester in White Plains, NY. All three of these organizations have a common goal of providing nutritious meals to those in need. Charities like these rely on donations like ours to fulfill their goals.

Our Stratford location’s donations will be distributed to the Merton Center. The food pantry at the Merton Center services an average of 100 families every week. Open three days each week, families make appointments to shop the food pantry, which is stocked by local grocery store donations as well as food drives like ours.

FoodShare will be receiving donations from our Windsor location. Founded in 1982, Foodshare services Hartford and Tolland counties in Connecticut, where 121,000 people struggle with hunger. Donations from our Bedford location will be received at Lifting Up Westchester. Through Grace’s Kitchen at Lifting Up Westchester, 20,000 meals are provided each year and served Monday through Friday, with more meals delivered and taken home.

William B. Meyer, Inc. is devoted to the fight to end hunger while helping out in our own neighborhoods. Mike Racette, CEO of William B. Meyer, Inc. explained, “Helping those in need, especially in our surrounding communities, is crucial to our values. I am truly impressed by the amount of donations and show of support by all of our team members!”

Our company is proud to partner with Move for Hunger, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to combatting hunger. A portion of these donations will count towards our company’s efforts to support Move for Hunger. Move for Hunger makes an impact in communities nationwide by collecting and donating nonperishable food items from people who are in the process of moving.
