When Stratford Library prepared to launch a sweeping renovation — one that would deliver a new Teen space, a revamped Reference area, an updated computer lab, and a brand-new uCreate maker space — they needed more than a moving company. They needed a team that understands libraries.
Meyer brought its deep library relocation expertise to the project, fielding a crew of eight to carefully clear the space over two days and make way for the construction work ahead.
A Methodical Two-Day Operation
On day one, Meyer’s crew identified and removed a wide range of furniture and equipment — chairs, tables, stools, tech carts, a podium, and more — transporting it across three truckloads to Meyer’s secure warehouse facility. There, every item was scanned into Meyer’s inventory management system, photographed, and vaulted for safekeeping until the renovation is complete.
Day two shifted focus to the library’s collection itself: thousands of books and rooms full of shelving, relocated internally using library carts for safe storage. This kind of internal reorganization requires careful planning to keep materials organized and accessible — and to set up the newly renovated space for a smooth, logical return.
Protecting What Matters — Even When It’s Not in the Plan
The project also included the careful handling of three pieces of artwork. Though custom crating wasn’t part of the original scope, Meyer’s team made the call to thoroughly photograph each piece before it was moved — documenting condition on the front end to protect everyone down the road. It’s the kind of experienced, proactive thinking that comes from doing this work again and again.
A complete physical on-site inventory was also conducted, giving the library and construction team full confidence in what was moved, where it went, and what to expect on the return.
The Meyer Difference
Library relocations aren’t standard moves — they require knowledge of collection organization, careful handling of both everyday furniture and one-of-a-kind items, and the systems to manage it all with accountability. Meyer has built that expertise across projects at libraries throughout the region, and we bring it to every job, whether it’s a university collection or a beloved community library like Stratford’s. When the renovation wraps and the doors reopen, Meyer will be ready to help put it all back together.
