Transitioning a 24-hour emergency pet hospital to a new home
Client:
Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital
Meyer helps Blue Pearl upgrade into new, state-of-the-art facility without missing a beat.
Introduction/Overview
Blue Pearl is a national network of specialty and emergency pet hospitals that is rapidly growing into new regions. Recently, Blue Pearl acquired an existing veterinary hospital in Delaware so that it could bring its renowned systems to the region. As part of this transition, Blue Pearl decided to move the Newark operations to a much larger, state-of-the-art facility. After a competitive review, Blue Pearl selected Meyer based on the company’s deep experience with highly sensitive healthcare moves.
The Challenge

The Blue Pearl facility provides 24-hour emergency service and includes an ICU, operating rooms and technical equipment (radiology, incubation, surgery center). For the transition to its new facility, Blue Pearl needed to remain fully operational at all times, so Meyer needed to relocate many of the specialty items very quickly into the new location to allow them to be operational as fast as possible.

In addition, as it was preparing for the project, the Meyer team leveraged its deep experience to identify and anticipate challenges ahead of time. This included the recognition that the new facility needed certain construction updates to be fully functional without interruption.

The Solution

To help Blue Pearl prepare its new facility and move seamlessly, the Meyer team delivered many of its Workplace Solutions services, including:

  • Conducting a facility review and making recommendations that helped better manage the buildout of the new space
  • Developing a detailed project plan for moving sensitive items including the surgery center lights, equipment and the rehab unit’s operating systems
  • Helping purge, pack and transfer all of the patient charts in an ordered fashion to make them accessible at all times during the move
  • Relocating substantial technical systems and equipment
  • Updating the new facility and systems, including converting the gas line that powered the industrial washer and dryer system
  • Developing a “hot truck system” that operated independently of the rest of the move to transport time-sensitive items

“Meyer’s comprehensive services, professionalism, and subject-matter-expertise clearly set them apart from competitors. The chaos associated with moving a 24/7 healthcare facility cannot be overstated – both facilities still need to maintain functioning Emergency Rooms along with equipment and supplies needed to treat patients. Joe, Josh, Brett, Chris, and the rest of the team assigned to our project made the ultimate difference in our hospital move being successful. They were patient, flexible, communicative, and went above and beyond to provide top-tier service to our team which allowed us to continue to provide exceptional care for all of our patients.”

In return, the Meyer team was touched to move such precious cargo and the experience of being “brought in as a mover and leaving as a family member.”

Meyer’s Impact
Blue Pearl successfully made the transition to its new facility without any downtime or interruption to pet patient care and marveled at the professionalism, insights and creative solutions the Meyer team brought to this engagement. As a result, Meyer and Blue Pearl are already talking about next engagements.
