Started in Meyer’s hometown of Stratford, Connecticut, Athletic Brewing has rapidly become a leading national brand. As a “non-alcoholic beer company dedicated to making great-tasting craft brews, without compromise,” they offer a unique product in a booming industry. In fact, their original brewery located across the street from our corporate headquarters was the first of only two non-alcoholic dedicated facilities in the world – the other is Athletic Brewing’s west coast facility in San Diego, California
In recent years, Athletic Brewing’s production levels have soared, and they recently built out a new 150,000 square-foot facility in Milford, CT to support its continued growth. As further evidence of its success – Athletic Brewing was recently named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential companies of 2022.
To support the build out of its new location and in particular, its brewing production line, Athletic Brewing called on Meyer’s team to install 40 new holding and mash tanks. Because some of these tanks weigh more than 20 tons and are more than 40 feet tall, simply getting them into the building was a complex challenge and required innovative planning and execution. In addition, these tanks were delayed in transit due to the global shipping issues brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and needed to be transported and installed quickly once they arrived in port.
The Meyer Rigging team developed a creative plan to move these various tanks into the new facility. While some of the tanks readily fit through the shipping doors, others were too large to physically stand up in the building. For the larger units, Meyer deployed a crane to lower the tanks vertically through an opening in the roof. Then, the team used different trucks within the building to move the new tanks into place.
To keep this project on schedule, the Meyer team had to coordinate the activities of several trades – from construction and welders to plumbers, electricians, and painters – and carefully move and install very large, very expensive equipment.
Despite the challenges of shipping delays and the ongoing pandemic, Meyer’s team implemented this technically challenging job safely and quickly, ensuring that the construction of Athletic Brewing’s new facility stayed on schedule.
It’s exciting to see a local company grow so successfully and we’re happy to report that even with these new facilities being built, they’re still our neighbors with their corporate headquarters remaining right across Long Beach Boulevard from ours.
