When the City of Meriden realized the need to renovate the library, they quickly learned that they had a long road ahead. The $3.2 million dollar project was slated for an 18-month timeline, with a new digital media center, enhancements to the children’s library section, and an overall fresh feel to the new space.
Meyer’s work on the project began in March 2022 when they packed up the precious contents of the space to allow for renovations to begin. Meyer was asked to safely store the portion of the book collection that was comprised of the low circulating items while moving the other items to a temporary library location in a nearby retail shopping mall.
In addition to storing the collection, Becky Starr, Meriden Library’s Director, enlisted Meyer’s help with planning out shelving installation for the new space. “Becky and I discussed the challenges when she came to the realization that the new shelving was well out of budget and they would just need to reinstall the existing shelves into the new space,” said Meyer Account Manager Christina Vernacchio.
Meyer saw an opportunity to offer a solution by partnering with Transfer Enterprises to create customized end panels to give the existing shelves a fresh new look while remaining well within budget. Once the renovations were completed, Meyer installed the shelving, panels, tops, and signage to complete the space. The book collection that had been stored in Meyer’s temperature and humidity-controlled depository were delivered back to the library and the project was complete once the Meyer team returned to shelve the entire collection.
Meyer was present at the library right up until its grand opening in July 2023 and was proud to play a role in the transformation of this new space into an incredible resource for the community!
