Protecting a University’s Collection: Meyer Supports Pope Pius XII Library Renovation

When the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford needed to renovate their Pope Pius XII Library—a year-long project that would transform the learning space—they faced a critical question: how do you protect an entire library collection during major construction?

Meyer was brought in by 7 Summits Construction and O&G Construction to provide specialized library relocation services, ensuring the university’s extensive book collection and valuable statuary would be safely preserved throughout the renovation period.

Careful Packing and Protection

Meyer’s team carefully packed the library’s entire collection on-site, using proven library packing methods and palletizing boxes for easy movement during the multi-phase renovation. Beyond the books, the project required protecting religious statuary and artwork that are integral to the character of this Catholic university’s library—items requiring specialized handling and careful preservation protocols.

The palletized approach allows construction teams to shift materials as needed throughout the renovation while maintaining organization and accessibility when the time comes to return items to the newly renovated space.

More Than Moving—Library Expertise

When the renovation is complete in 10-12 months, Meyer will return to work with the library director on the detailed process of refilling the newly renovated space—determining fill ratios, organizing collections, and ensuring every book and piece of statuary returns to its proper place in the transformed learning environment.

This project showcases Meyer’s specialized library capabilities: careful packing and handling of both books and art objects, organized storage solutions, and the expertise to manage complex academic library projects from start to finish.

The Meyer Difference

University libraries require specialized knowledge that goes beyond standard moving services. Meyer understands collection organization, preservation protocols for diverse materials, and the unique challenges of coordinating around academic schedules and renovation timelines. Whether it’s protecting rare books or valuable religious art, we deliver the library expertise that keeps education moving forward.
